If you were watching TV this afternoon, you may have switched the channel to NBC and saw the Red Bull Rampage.
The Red Bull Rampage is considered the Super Bowl of mountain biking, or freeride mountain bike movement (FMB) as some people like to call it.
Where does the Red Bull mountain bike riding competition occur? It takes place in the beautiful red rock vistas of Southern Utah, specifically in the city of Virgin.
There’s a town called Virgin? For real?
Yep, Virgin, UT. is in Washington County close to both Zion National Park and St. George. The city is located next to the Virgin River.
You may have heard of Virgin, Utah before. Michael Moore’s 2002 movie Bowling for Columbine mentioned the city due to their law that requires every person who owns a home to keep and maintain a gun. Don’t worry, you’ll be safe visiting Virgin.
You have to be invited to ride in the Red Bull Rampage free ride mountain bike competition. You can’t just show up and sign-up to ride in the contest. If you’re a hard-core mountain bike rider interested riding the same terrain you saw on TV, come stay with us at St. George Vacation Rentals. Red Bull Rampage is a mountain biking contest that includes all parts of still growing sport: freedom of expression, competitiveness, risk taking and technology.
Competitive mountain biking use to be about three main aspects — downhill racing, dirt jumping, and slope style. But the contests didn’t match what the most advanced mountain bikers were doing – descending rugged mountainsides on ill-defined trails or none at all. Some people think the new mountain bike contests are like back country skiers thrashing on fresh tracks on a powder day.
