This is quite the week to be in southern Utah and St George. In fact it’s one of the busiest of the entire year. The St George Marathon brings bundles of people into St George, and in conjunction with that there are a few other events going on as well to keep the marathon goers busy. So hold on tight as we delve into a handful of events going on this weekend in southern Utah.

39th Annual St George Marathon & Kids Run

The marathon officially begins Saturday morning October 3rd, so if you want to cheer on the runners then be in the vicinity of Vernon Worthen park tomorrow morning. The runners will be making their way from Pine Valley down to the middle of St George. It begins in the majestic Pine Valley mountains and descends nearly 2600 feet through scenic southwest Utah, to the beautiful Worthern Park. The St. George Marathon is USA Track & Field Certified & Sanctioned. It’s fun and exciting to cheer on those who have accomplished a remarkable feat, the STG Marathon is no easy task! There is no cost to come be part of the action, and there will be some fun things going on in the park afterwards as well.

The kids run is Friday October 2nd at 6 pm at Vernon Worthen. This is a kids only event where they get to run through the marathons finish line after running 1 mile or 200 meters. The cost is $1- per person and includes a T-shirt and a medallion. Definitely worth the time if you want to instill a running spirit in your children.

George Fest and Live Music

It’s fast becoming a local favorite, George Fest. Where they shut down part of main street and tabernacle, add some booths, some fun and more. It really is a fun thing to do with your family. This weeks event (held on Friday night Oct. 2nd) is a hybrid of George Fest and Oktoberfest, so come out for some beer and brats. They’ll have live jazz and blues music from Tom Bennett and The Katt’s Pajamas. This months George Fest is celebrating the German pioneers who helped settle this area. They’ll have collectible Oktoberfest mugs available at the event, root beer, and beer at the Jazz Garden as well.

The location has changed due to some renovation at Ancestor Square, this evening it will be at the DiFiore Center for the Arts. Live jazz and blues will spice up the evening Friday night at the DiFiore Center for the Arts, rather than the usual location of Ancestor Square, as part of Oktoberfest at George, Streetfest.

Judd Pumpkin Patch

The Judd Pumpkin Patch and petting zoo opens this weekend. So if you’re looking for a fun family thing to do with the kids then head out there way. You’ll be able to pick up some of the best locally grown pumpkins around, and let the kids pet some animals that they wouldn’t normally get to pet.
